  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for topping)

  • ½ teaspoon allspice (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and mix until combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until well combined.
  4. Roll dough into 1-inch balls; coat each in a mixture of sugar, nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon for topping.
  5. Place on a lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart and bake for 12–15 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges.
  6. Cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
