  • 1 cup very hot water
  • Bananas (for topping)
  • Fresh whipped cream (for topping)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for vanilla cream sauce)
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick) (for vanilla cream sauce)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (for vanilla cream sauce)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for vanilla cream sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and butter until smooth.
  3. Add the beaten egg and molasses; stir until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, then slowly add hot water until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool slightly before serving warm topped with sliced bananas, whipped cream, and vanilla cream sauce.
